• Genetic inheritance (aneurysms can run in the family)
• Genetic abnormalities (some conditions such as Marfan syndrome, Ehler's Danlos syndrome, Loeyes-Dietz syndrome, Takayasu’s arteritis, Behcet's disease) can cause AAA.
• Cigarette smoking
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Age (AAA is more likely to occur in those over 60 yrs age)
• Gender (Aneurysms of the abdominal Aorta are more common in men than women.)
