Consultant Vascular Surgeon

Biography

Mr Maziar Mireskandari qualified in Medicine (MB ChB) from the University of Leeds in 1992. He started his surgical training in London in 1995. His doctorate research project in Vascular Surgery led to the award of the Doctorate of Medicine (MD) in 2006. He spent a year in Paris at Henri Mondor Hospital for his post surgical fellowship. He obtained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2007.

He started his consultant career at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2007. He joined the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust in 2015 where he set up, and is the lead surgeon in the complex stent programme for extensive aortic disease.

Clinical Expertise

Mr Mireskandari is one of a very small group of vascular surgeons in the UK who offer both endovascular stenting and open surgery for treatment of the most complex Aortic conditions including Thoraco-abdominal Aortic aneurysms and aortic dissection. He has a special interest in treatment of patients with congenital disease of the Aorta. He regularly speaks at National and International meetings on the subjects of Aortic disease and has written many publications in peer reviewed journals and books. He is frequently referred International patients for treatment of complex Aortic conditions.

Further, he has over 15 years of experience in treatment of patients with peripheral vascular (arterial) disease, in particular minimally invasive angiographic (Balloons and stents) based treatment of patients with foot complications of diabetes and chronic kidney disease. He also has an interest in lower limb bypass surgery for blocked arteries in the legs, including patients with diabetes, and ulcers with poor circulation. He has a well-established international practice and regularly visits the Middle East to offer surgical treatment and training lectures.

In addition to treatments for the Aorta and lower limb arterial conditions, his expertise includes a comprehensive treatment package, including diagnostic ultrasound scanning, for varicose veins, troublesome spider veins, telangiectasia, and venules. He offers the standard minimally invasive treatments including laser surgery, radiofrequency varicose vein ablation, sclerotherapy (foam) injection as well as the newer methods such as cyano acrylate glue, and pharmaco-mechanical minimally invasive therapies.

Further treatments offered are carotid endarterectomy for patients to prevent risk of stroke and Botox injections for treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating).

He also holds private consultations at the Royal Brompton Hospital, Wimpole Street, the Wellington Hospital, and the Cromwell Hospital. Mr Mireskandari conducts also conducts some of his private practice from the Harley Street Hospital.

Memberships

His business interests include developing leading models of healthcare. He was the Chief Medical Officer for Freedom Health Insurance, a UK based private medical insurance company between 2009-2017 where he obtained valuable experience in national and international healthcare economics.
